SWISS to return as naming sponsor of Kloten’s ice hockey stadium

The ice hockey stadium in the town of Kloten adjacent to Zurich Airport is to be known as the ‘SWISS Arena’ again from 1 May 2024. SWISS is resuming its role as naming sponsor of the venue to support its resident ice hockey club EHC Kloten. The collaboration further extends SWISS’s commitment to sports and to local institutions in the Zurich Airport region.

Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) is to become the naming sponsor of the ice hockey stadium in the town of Kloten adjacent to Zurich Airport once again on 1 May 2024. From the 2024/2025 season onwards, local ice hockey club EHC Kloten will again be playing its home games in the ‘SWISS Arena’.

“As we’re one of the biggest employers in the Zurich Airport region, it’s very important to us that we are involved in the local community,” says Heike Birlenbach, SWISS’s Chief Commercial Officer. “So we’re delighted that, after a pandemic-related interruption, we will once again be the naming sponsor of EHC Kloten’s home ice hockey stadium. And we hope, of course, that our renewed involvement and support will bring the team a lot of good luck, too.”

“For many people, EHC Kloten and SWISS have always belonged together,” adds Jan Schibli, Chairman of the EHC Kloten Board of Directors. “So it’s all the more exciting that we can now revive our partnership. In being our new – and old – naming sponsor, SWISS is making a major commitment to hockey and sport in Kloten that goes well beyond the Zurich Airport region.”

The new sponsorship agreement between SWISS and EHC Kloten comes into effect on 1 May and will run for five years. The club’s home stadium has borne the name ‘SWISS Arena’ before, between May 2015 and summer 2021. SWISS declined to extend the previous sponsorship agreement in spring 2021, in view of the corona pandemic.

Variously involved in sports and local institutions

In addition to its partnership with EHC Kloten, SWISS has long been supporting various further activities and institutions in sports and the Zurich Airport region. The company is involved in many local events, and works closely with the Pigna foundation in Kloten and the Wisli foundation in Bülach, both of which are dedicated to persons with special needs. SWISS further puts a particular focus on working with charities that support children and young people, and has been collaborating for many years with SOS Children’s Villages Switzerland, with the Lufthansa Group’s help alliance and with the Sternschnuppe children’s charity.

On the sports front, SWISS is primarily involved at the national level, with long-standing partnerships with Switzerland’s major sports associations. SWISS is the official airline of the Swiss Football Association, of Swiss Athletics and of the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation, and is a further partner of Swiss Olympic, Swiss Paralympic and Swiss Ski.
