Airbus to help boost Côte d’Ivoire aviation

Airbus and the government of Côte d’Ivoire signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a framework of collaboration to support the development of the country’s aerospace industry, which has been identified as strategic for its economic development.

Under the terms of the MoU, Airbus and the government of Côte d’Ivoire will explore channels of cooperation in developing the aerospace sector in Côte d’Ivoire in various areas. “We are committed to deliver on our vision and make Côte d’Ivoire a hub for aerospace technology in Africa,” said Daniel Duncan, Vice President of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire.

In the past years, the aviation industry developed in Côte d’Ivoire, with the goal of becoming an aerial hub in Western Africa. On September 21, 2017, the Centre des Métiers de l’Aviation (CMA), a formation center mainly focused on ground personnel opened at Port Bouët International Airport (ABJ) in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. The objective is to answer the increasing demand for aviation staff in the country.

Meanwhile, Abidjan airport is in the process of being enlarged and modernized with the objective to welcome 5 millions of passengers by 2022. By collaborating with Airbus, the government of Côte d’Ivoire expects to accelerate the development of its aviation industry, one of the keys sectors of its economic growth. The country’s national carrier, Air Côte d’Ivoire, operates a fleet of Airbus and Bombardier aircraft and was the first company in Africa to order a A320neo.
