Japan Airlines and ANA Become Supporting Partners of Tokyo 2020 Olympic Torch Relay

Japan Airlines Co., Ltd. (JAL) today signed a “Supporting Partner” Agreement for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Torch Relay (hereinafter “Partnership Agreement”) with the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games it was also announced that All Nippon Airways (ANA), Japan’s largest 5-Star airline for seven consecutive years, has also signed an agreement today with the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games to become a “Supporting Partner” of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Torch Relay.

As a Supporting Partner, JAL will strengthen communications of Tokyo 2020 and the Olympic Torch Relay in a broad range of customer touchpoints, such as at the airport, in-flight, JAL website, SNS, and at regional events across Japan, which will help foster the Olympic Movement.

JAL will promote the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Torch Relay and work to build domestic excitement for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, which is set to begin one year from now. In addition, JAL will be working with All Nippon Airways Co., Ltd. to transport the Olympic flame from Greece to Japan. Japan’s leading airlines will collaborate in the effort to bring and spread the Olympic spirit to regions throughout Japan as the Olympic flame travels through 47 prefectures for 121 days. JAL will join hands with other Partner companies and contribute to realizing the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Torch Relay concept of “Hope Lights Our Way.”

JAL’s relationship with the Olympic Games dates back to the time when the carrier transported the Olympic flame from Athens to Japan for the Olympic Games Tokyo 1964. The company has been supporting Japan Olympic and Paralympic Teams by providing safe and comfortable air transportation services as an Official Airline of the Japanese Olympic Committee since 1992 and it became the first Official Partner of the Japanese Paralympic Committee in 2005.

In addition, JAL has supported Team Japan delegations attending the Olympic Games, by operating special livery aircraft and chartered flights, while hosting Olympic related exhibitions and events.

As an Official Airline Partner of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020, JAL is carrying out a special project, which embodies the aspirations expressed in JAL`s Tokyo 2020 communication slogan “Fly for it”.

To spread the excitement for Tokyo 2020 with the people of Japan, JAL is operating a special livery aircraft bearing the official Tokyo 2020 mascots, Miraitowa and Someity.
