International Brazil Air Show foresees receiving 120 thousand visitors gathering 300 companies, and generating US $350 million in business
Directed to aviation industry, IBAS will be the biggest Brazilian event after the Summer Olympics and will have aircraft and equipment display, air shows and flight simulators
The air sector contributes to 1.3% of Brazil’s GDP, in addition to being responsible for almost 1.6 million Jobs, including the tourism trade. The Brazilian companies have more than 600 aircraft serving commercial aviation and their executive fleet is the second largest in the world, with 1.650 aircraft, which represents 5% of the worldly total. Additionally to Brazilian military planes serving in a dozen of foreign air forces, including France and United Kingdom.
On April 4th, Paula Faria, Executive Director at Sator, creator and organizer of the event, announced the launching of IBAS – International Brazil Air Show, which will happen from March 29th to April 2nd, 2017 at RIOgaleão – Tom Jobim International Airport, in Rio de Janeiro. Upon $ 2.1 million invested, IBAS will gather companies from aerospace, airport and general aviation sector and supply chain to discuss the sector overview.
“Our Market represents great development opportunities. An example is the investment of $2.51 bi on upcoming years on airport concession, foreseen by BNDES (Brazilian Development Bank)”, highlights Paula. In 2016, four more airports will be given to private concession. “Our expectation is to generate $350 million during the five days of event”, she affirms. IBAS will be the largest national event after the Olympics, the first of its kind in Brazil.
The perspectives are optimistic. In 2014, Embraer along with BNDES and other two partners announced the launching of an investment fund for the participation on the aerospace sector, with initial worth of US$ 38 million. Sole in 2015, BNDES allocated about to US$ 350 million to aeronautic sector.
Embraer, indeed, is the 3rd aircraft producer in the world, only behind Boeing and Airbus; Recently, Boeing declared that their 2015 Market Perspective perceive that Latin American air companies will buy more than 3 thousand aircraft, assessed in US$ 350 bi, on the next 20 years – even though more than 40% will be allocated in Brazilian companies.
Business and entertainement
The wide audience was not forgotten. Based on the largest shows in the world, the event will also contemplate in its schedule the aircraft and equipment display, air presentations, and flight simulators to attract the public, estimating to gather 120 thousand participants on the 5 days of event. From March 29th to 31st the access will be limited to professionals and sector businesspeople; on April 1st and 2nd, the event will be open to the public, with ticket sale on the box office.
With regard to the size of IBAS, Paula Faria revealed her inspiration. “Brazil deserves an event similar to the great events around the world, we were inspired by Le Bourget, in France, and we have FIDAE as our partner” she stated. IBAS will occupy a 40 thousand sqm on the Cargo Terminal, encompassing seminars, workshops, presentations, business roundtables, aircraft and equipment display, air presentations and flight simulators.
Claudio Jorge Pinto Alves, vice-dean on ITA (Aeronautics Institute of Technology), presented data that demonstrated the strength of the Brazilian air sector, even though the political-economic scenery is delicate now. According to Alves, Brazil, counts on 711 public aerodromes, but only 120 operate regular commercial aviation. In addition, data from International Air Transport Association (IATA) indicate that from the 3 billion annual passengers around the world, 1% are in Latin America. “And Brazil occupies a prominent position: corresponding to 45.5% of all the 36.6 million passengers transported in Latin America”, reaffirms Alves. “We have a great market to develop”, he concludes.
