Israeli national air carrier El Al Israel Airlines will close its low-cost subsidiary UP in the second quarter of 2018. This decision was made due the fact that the main airline intends to review their business in the European market and introduce a new line of tariffs on its flights.
The airline explained that the narrow-body aircraft Boeing 737-800, operated by UR, will be modernized by 2019. In particular, it plans to replace the seats for business and economy class. Instead of the UP services, the Israeli airline will offer passengers traveling to Europe three tariff options, one of which will be Lite – an option close to the low-cost segment. This option will allow travelers to carry only carry-on baggage, but it will also include meals on board. Passengers will not be able to cancel or modify the booking after purchasing a ticket.
Classic is the second option that EL AL is going to offer, it will include seat selection, presence of luggage and cancellation or change of reservation for an additional commission fee. The third option is Flex that provides the most extensive features, including additional options for making changes and cancellation of the reservation. New tariff packages will be available starting from April 30, 2018 on flights with departure date of October 15, 2018.
