Delta flight aborted after engine fire

An Airbus A330-300 of the U.S.-based Delta Airlines was forced to turn back and make an emergency landing at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL) in Atlanta after its engine caught fire on April 18, 2018.

The plane took off at 5:51pm local time from Atlanta and was on its way to London Heathrow. After about 10 minutes of flight, the right engine showed sign of malfunction. Delta pilots shut it down and landed back on Hartsfield-Jackson airport. According to social media reports, the engine was smoking when the plane landed. The fire unit of the airport intervened on the plane. No passengers were harmed during the incident.

The flight was rescheduled later in the night. The passengers boarded another plane that took off at 10:32pm and landed without any trouble in London.

Anthony Black, spokesperson at Delta Airlines, forwarded an apology to the passengers. The FAA opened an investigation to identify the causes of the incident.
