China Eastern Airlines to commence flights from Western Australia to mainland China over Chinese New Year holiday

China Eastern Airlines service will connect Western Australia with mainland China over the popular and busy Chinese New Year holiday.

The four-week seasonal trial over Chinese New Year will result in three non-stop flights operating between Perth (PER) and Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) per week between 19 January and 17 February 2024.

Perth Airport Chief Operating Officer Scott Woodward said the service was a great result and followed negotiations in partnership with Tourism WA and the State Government.

“Fresh produce, business and leisure tourism are all key export focus areas and a direct link between Shanghai and Perth will undoubtedly further connect Western Australia and benefit the entire economy.

“It also offers great potential for both tourism and business in Western Australia and we look forward to building a strong partnership with China Eastern Airlines to ensure the trial’s success and hopefully see the airline operate a year-round service at Perth Airport in the future.

“Shanghai is just 10 hours away on this non-stop flight from Perth, providing the perfect opportunity to experience the traditionally flamboyant and colourful celebration of Chinese New Year.

“As well as providing Western Australians with the chance to experience Shanghai, Perth Airport in partnership with the State Government and Tourism WA, is working hard to build the profile of Perth and Western Australia as a destination for Chinese visitors,” said Mr Woodward.

China Eastern Airlines is operating its Shanghai service on an A330-200 which has 232 seats with flights MU7389 and MU7390 is currently operating on a Monday, Thursday, and Saturday, arriving into Perth at 10.00am and departing at 12.30pm until 18 February 2023.
