Airbus is working with Emirates, the biggest buyer of its A380 aircraft, on a new order for A380 aircraft, Bloomberg informs.
The two sides should agree on terms of the future agreement before the Dubai Air Show, which starts on November 12, 2017, Emirates chairman Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum said on November 3, 2017, in Hamburg, before taking delivery of its 100th A380.
At the delivery ceremony of Emirates’ 100th Airbus A380 Airbus chief executive Tom Enders also expressed his belief in further cooperation between Airbus and Emirates.
“Emirates continues to open new routes all over the world while we in Airbus are due to deliver 42 more A380s to the airline in becoming years, and I hope, of course, and we indicated it a little bit during the press conference, many more after that,” said Enders. Airbus chief executive stated that the manufacturer is planning to produce A380 for the next 10 years.
Emirates is the biggest A380 customer. It has an order for 142 aircraft of which 100 have been already delivered. The order is estimated to be worth $61 billion. The airline introduced the first A380 to its fleet in July 2008. Since then the carrier has received on average 11 A380 deliveries per year. In its 2016/17 financial year, Emirates received a record 19 new A380 aircraft.
“We remain committed to the program and will work closely with Airbus and our partners to continually enhance our A380 product as we look ahead to receiving our remaining 42 aircraft on order,” said Sheikh Ahmed in an official statement.
