Passenger Technology Solutions seminars explore personalisation and new passenger engagement trends for 2019 and beyond

Passenger Technology Solutions (PTS) returns this April – during Passenger Experience Week – with its exclusive seminar programme providing airlines, airports and rail operators with an opportunity to learn about the most innovative technologies, data tools and digital solutions that will revolutionise the travel experience for passengers around the world.

Kicking off on 2 April, following the highly acclaimed Passenger Experience Conference the day before, the two-day programme will feature insights from Airbus, ORACLE, SITA and many more. The industry’s foremost experts will offer an exclusive look at how to establish a seamless and connected passenger experience, while shining a light on the importance of customer engagement and personalised experiences. The highly informative sessions will also highlight the integrated and collaborative approach that airlines must take, within their businesses and with travel partners, to deliver responsive customer services and to improve their operations.

Recent research from the supporting organisation of Passenger Experience Week and speaker – IATA – shows that in 2017, there were 1,270,406 passengers in 9,728 airplanes at any one time[1]. This poses a challenge to airlines and airports who aim to provide each passenger a high quality and unique experience. The PTS seminar programme will open with a workshop from design and creative veteran Luke Miles who will explore the challenges of streamlining the customer journey, while maintaining a continuity of experience between classes. His session, titled “Using emerging technologies to provide truly bespoke passenger experiences”, will highlight ground-breaking projects from his previous roles as Global Head of Design at Virgin Atlantic Airways and Head of Design for LG’s European Design Studio.

Speaking ahead of the session, Luke said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be taking part in this year’s Passenger Technology Solutions seminar programme. The industry is fast approaching a turning point, which will see the passenger experience undergo a technologically-driven period of advancement. The topics covered in the programme – biometrics, bespoke onboard services and blockchain technology amongst others – will be central to this shift and I’m looking forward to hearing the ground-breaking ideas being presented.”

The Keynote Discussion: Flying in 2025 – A Holistic Approach to Passenger Engagement will explore the future of passenger trends by bringing together aircraft manufacturers, technology providers, catering and culinary experts, behavioural scientists and passengers. This interactive panel discussion will be moderated by Dr Stathis Kefallontis, Founder and President of branding.aero and Noesis Analysis labs. He will be joined by experts from SITA, ORACLE, LSG GROUP, Airbus and Virgin Australia. With research suggesting that utilising data could increase revenue by 5-10%[2], this key session will offer airline and airport buyers insight using neurological and scientific approaches to passenger behaviours when it comes to purchasing products and services from exhibitors at the World Travel Catering & Onboard Services Expo (WTCE) which will take place alongside the PTS show.

The concept of creating an extended passenger experience is also part of this engagement; the travel experience rarely begins with boarding, so airlines and airports need to reassess their understanding of the passenger journey. The Transforming the travel ecosystem: Why today’s digital travellers need you to ‘Be There’ beyond the flight session will focus on exploring how better communications through digital tools, omnichannel ecosystems and reducing customer stress can improve ancillary revenues along with brand loyalty. Marisa Garcia, Founder of Flight Chic will host this discussion, with insights from Kristian Gjerding, Chief Executive Officer, CellPoint Mobile and Anne-Celine Donkersloot, Director Strategy & Experience Design, IN Air Travel Experience.

This year, Passenger Technology Solutions (PTS) will move from the A Halls to Hall B4 Upper of the Hamburg Messe when it returns to Passenger Experience Week, positioning the show closer to the Inflight Entertainment and Connectivity (IFEC) Zone within the co-located Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX). The event, which will bring together leading suppliers alongside the seminar programme, will demonstrate the growing importance of big data analytics, machine learning, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Virtual Reality (VR) solutions in personalising the passenger experience and delivering innovative inflight entertainment services. On the last day of PTS, Thursday 4 April, the winners of the PAX TECH HACK will be announced at the PTS Seminar Theatre by the judging panel.
