Wizz Air, Romania’s largest airline, today has officially reopened its base in Suceava, rounding off a year of exceptional growth across the country. With the allocation of two state-of-the-art Airbus A321 neo family aircraft, the airline now operates a total of 41 aircraft in Romania and two more already announced for 2026. Suceava remained an important airport to Wizz Air throughout the years, and the airline is happy to have added more than 130 thousand seats for this winter season. The airline continues to offer more affordable travel options, meeting the growing demand for budget-friendly flights both for meeting friends and relatives and for leisure, with tickets already available online on Wizz Air’s official website and through its mobile app from as low as RON 79*.

With a reopened base and two allocated aircraft in Suceava, this addition to the Romanian network this winter season marks a significant step forward for Wizz Air’s operations. This expansion will enhance connectivity from the Bucovina region by enabling the launch of seven routes. Starting this week, passengers can fly from Suceava to Bologna, Milan Bergamo, Venice, Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden, Birmingham, Larnaca and Brussels Charleroi. In January, Wizz Air will also increase the frequency on its route to Dortmund, with four weekly flights.

Since the start of its Romanian operations in 2006, Wizz Air has steadily increased its investment in Romania, recognizing the country as a pivotal market. Wizz air now offers 13 routes to six countries from Suceava “Ștefan cel Mare” International Airport. To celebrate the inaugural flight from the new Suceava base to Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden, as well as to express its appreciation to loyal travellers, the airline also surprised five Suceava residents with special lucky vouchers for their next WIZZ flight that have been hidden in the seat pockets by cabin crew.

Speaking at the press conference in Suceava, Mauro Peneda, Managing Director of Wizz Air Malta, said: “We are delighted to mark this December with the reopening of our Suceava base, now fully operational and supported by state-of-the-art aircraft. With these additions, we are launching seven new routes from this wonderful city, expanding our local network to 13 routes across six countries. This moment is an important milestone in strengthening our presence in Suceava and reflects our continued commitment to expanding operations in Romania. It also supports our long-term «Customer First Compass» strategy of offering ultra-low fares and an excellent service to an even broader range of European destinations. We are excited to welcome passengers on board, both on our newly introduced services and on our existing flights from the renewed Suceava base.”

In turn, Gheorghe Șoldan, President of the Suceava County Council, pointed out that Suceava Airport has entered a major modernization process: “From the very first year of my mandate, we solved the problem that for years kept airlines away from Suceava. We installed ILS CAT III, the system that allows aircraft to land safely even in adverse weather conditions. Tomorrow the equipment will be calibrated, and Suceava will become the second airport in Romania equipped with this high-performance system. In a few weeks, we will launch the tender for the construction of Terminal 3, with an area of over 10,000 square meters, three times larger than the existing terminals. At the same time, we are modernizing the apron, expanding the parking facilities, and building a new access road to the airport. We are delivering on our promises. A modern airport for a county that is developing.”

Ioan Măriuța, General Manager of “Ștefan cel Mare” Suceava International Airport, added: “This relaunch represents a reconfirmation of the strong partnership we have built over nearly a decade of cooperation. Since 2016, the year Wizz Air began operations in Suceava, the airline has carried more than 3.4 million passengers to and from our airport. This figure is not just a statistical indicator; it also reflects the trust passengers place in Wizz Air’s services and in the potential of this airport. It is clear proof that our partnership has connected Suceava with Europe in a consistent and efficient manner. Wizz Air has been our strategic and most important partner for almost 10 years, contributing significantly to increased regional mobility, the stimulation of tourism, and support for the local business environment. Today’s relaunch of the operational base strengthens Suceava Airport’s position on the regional and national aviation map and opens new development prospects for the county and the entire region. I would like to thank the Wizz Air team for their professionalism and trust over the years, as well as the President of the Suceava County Council, Mr. Gheorghe Șoldan, for the efforts and joint initiatives that made this step forward possible. We look with optimism to this new chapter for our community and region.”
