Virgin America Disappears

Sixteen months after its fusion with Alaska Airlines, Virgin America vanished during the night between April 24 and 25, 2018. Boarding desks, gates… nothing remains of the brand in the 29 airports it was serving.

On December 14, 2016, Alaska Airlines officialised its acquisition of Virgin America. The merger officially took effect on April 25, 2018. The last plane to depart with a VX code was the flight VX1948 from San Francisco (SFO) to Los Angeles (LAX). However, another Virgin America plane was still in air when VX1948 landed in LAX. The flight VX1182 from San Francisco to Newark (EWR) was the last to officially bear the VX mark.

Apart from the livery and change of cabin design that are transitioning from Virgin’s red to Alaska’s blue before the end of 2019, what the passengers may miss the most is the infamous “Virgin America Safety Dance” that was put in place instead of traditional safety instructions since 2013.
