Parker Stratoflex Crashworthy Fuel breakaway Valves for the Aerospace Industry

Description
Specifications

The Stratoflex Crashworthy Fuel Breakaway Valve is a proven lifesaving component designed to enhance the crashworthiness and integrity of aircraft fuel systems. Engineered for performance under extreme conditions, these valves automatically separate and seal upon experiencing crash loads that exceed a predetermined threshold—effectively preventing hazardous fuel spills and minimizing post-impact risks.

Applications

Stratoflex Breakaway Valves are widely utilized across both military and commercial aerospace platforms. Common applications include:

  • Main and auxiliary fuel tank systems
  • Extended-range and external fuel tanks
  • Air-to-air refuelling systems
  • Tank vent lines (single-valve versions)

Design & Function

The valve’s compact and lightweight design incorporates a butterfly valve mounted on a cam shaft, actuated by a coil spring to ensure rapid closure. A sealing sleeve prevents leakage during operation, providing a clean, ice-resistant passage.
When crash-induced separation forces exceed the specified limit, the fuse section activates—safely dividing the valve and closing both sides to contain fuel before structural damage can occur. The breakaway mechanism is engineered to separate at approximately 25–50% of the normal strength of the connected plumbing, ensuring controlled, predictable performance.

Key Features

  • Automatic fluid shutoff upon separation
  • Minimal pressure drop across the coupling
  • Lightweight, low-profile construction for streamlined integration
  • Clean, contamination-resistant valve passage
  • No loose components to obstruct closure
  • Visible red indicator for quick valve closure verification
  • Replaceable fuse elements for cost-effective maintenance
