The International Arts & Antiquities Security Forum (IAASF) will co-locate their annual conference, dedicated to the protection of arts, antiquities and cultural heritage, at UK Security Expo 2017 for the first time this year.

Recent figures in the UK suggest that the cost of high value art thefts by organised crime gangs is in the region of £350-480 million annually, with the global value of crimes against arts, cultural and historical sites believed to be in excess of £10 billion. These figures are staggering and can only be tackled by working together across the disciplines that make up the cultural, heritage, arts and antiquity communities; as well as law enforcement and governments.

Andy Davis, Chair of the IAASF comments, “The IAASF event was created to provide a forum where those involved in, or with a passion for the cultural, art or antiquities sectors can learn about the security threats and risks that exist but also sensible steps that can be taken to provide security and protection. We are pleased to be co-locating the conference at UK Security Expo this year as it gives delegates the chance to also experience the latest security innovations and services that the wider show has to offer.”

This year’s IAASF Conference theme is ‘Protecting Cultural Venues from Adversarial Risks’ and will include discussions and presentations on Physical Security Target Hardening Cultural Venues, The Importance of Emergency Planning, Terrorist Threats and Activities Against the Historical and Cultural Sites, Effective Use of Security Personnel in Protecting Cultural Venues and Adversarial Risks to Places of Worship and other Historical Sites.

Peter Jones, CEO, UK Security Expo comments “Over two days, the UK Security Expo conference programme covers every aspect of counter terrorism and security with over 70 hours of educational content. We are delighted to have confirmed the participation of the IAASF Forum, which brings a new sector and an important network of professionals into the show for the first time.”

Jones continues “The extensive IAASF conference programme will deliver high-level insight into the key issues for security, alongside practical advice, best practice insight and solutions to the challenges ahead. The conference is an integral part of the offering at UK Security Expo and we look forward to continuing the relationship with the IAASF in the future.”
