MoCA and the Secretary of Defence Production, Government of India to be present at the MRO South Asia summit.
The year 2025 is off to an amazing start, especially for the global aviation sector, MRO to be precise as the predictions by consultancies and OEMs have predicted a massive growth for the global MRO industry, especially the South Asia market keeping a focus on India in particular.
Why India?
Let us look at the bigger picture, as per the latest forecast by Oliver-Wyman Asia will once again serve as an economic engine for the industry. However, over the next decade, India will lead the expansion, not China. Currently at just over 600 planes, India’s fleet will add aircraft at a rate of almost 13% over the first five years and nearly 10% for the 10-year forecast period. By 2034, it will be 2.5 times the size it is today.
To give a sense of how fast it is expanding, India has over 1,800 aircraft on order, more than triple the current size of its fleet. India has become the world’s most populated nation, with 1.4 billion people — only 3% of which fly regularly.
China, on the other hand, faces slowing economic growth, in part a result of collapsing real estate values, an aging population, and unemployment among its younger workers. Still, by 2034, China will become the second-largest fleet — displacing Western Europe which slips to No. 3. Over the next 10 years, the Chinese fleet will grow 56%.
The biggest fleet honors throughout the decade will remain with North America, where the fleet today tallies around 8,200 and will grow to 9,850. By comparison, the Western European fleet has a little over 5,300 aircraft today and is expected to grow to almost 5,900 by 2034. China has around 4,100 and will grow to just over 6,400. That means China’s fleet will be 65% as big as North America’s in 2034, versus 50% in 2024.
The overall global demand in the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) sector will grow 1.8% annually on average through 2034 when revenue will reach $124 billion.
Now, let us look at OEM predictions. India and South Asian airlines are expected to add about 2,835 commercial aircraft to their fleet in the next two decades according to the latest Boeing forecast. This figure reflects a whooping four-fold rise over the current levels as rising middle-class population eager to travel back with an equally healthy economic growth will encourage spur travel.
According to Boeing’s last year’s 20-year market forecast, India and South Asian airlines were expected to take deliveries of 2,705 jets. Between this year and last, there is an increase of 130 jets.
“People will have greater access to air travel, and the region’s airlines will require a modern fuel-efficient fleet to meet increased demand over the next two decades,” said Ashwin Naidu, Boeing’s managing director of commercial marketing for India and South Asia.
Eyeing the above lucrative MRO figure predictions over the next decade, it is only obvious that India is one of the fastest-growing MRO markets in the world. Against this backdrop, the Aerospace Media Group has organized a two-day MRO XPO India and Aircraft Interiors India 2025 exhibition co-located with the 6th Aerospace & Defence MRO South Asia Summit at India International Convention & Expo Centre (IICC), Dwaraka, New Delhi, India.
The summit will focus on India as a global market for MRO, the opportunities, government policies favoring local MROs as well as foreign investors, OEM investments, the making of aircraft leasing base at GIFT city, the evolving picture of Defence MRO in India, the skilled workforce imbalance and how to create a dedicated pipeline of skilled workforce talent, etc.
The MRO XPO India and Aircraft Interiors India 2025 exhibition is set to become a landmark event for the Indian and global aerospace industries. With a dynamic exhibition, a broad spectrum of international exhibitors, and an emphasis on India’s rapidly expanding MRO sector, the Expo will provide attendees with valuable insights into one of the most promising markets in the world.
Apart from aviation industry stalwarts across the length and breadth of aviation, the event is to be graced by the presence of none other than India’s Union Minister of Civil Aviation (MoCA) Ram Mohan Naidu along with the Secretary of Defence Production, Government of India. The announcement of these two big names at the MRO South Asia Summit has thrown a new light and excitement into the upcoming event.
The summit will brainstorm, debate, and discuss various challenges ahead of the Indian MRO industry and an action plan to overcome these challenges together in a collective way.
