Fully integrated, next-generation airport technology systems for an easy journey from check-in to bag collection from SITA
SITA will introduce the future of fully integrated airport technologies to help provide solutions for congestion and flight disruptions. SITA, which is well-known for its willingness to explore emerging technologies, has already introduced a number of these technology solutions at major airports around the world.
As airports focus on efficient aircraft turnaround and on-time departures, they are increasingly investing in integrated central control centers. Today just over half of airports (52%) have such a center and this will rise to nearly 80% over the next three years. Today, one-third of airports have local Collaborative Decision Making (CDM) and this will rise to 71% in the next three years, while more than half (55%) will have fully integrated it with ATM systems.
As these airports systems become increasingly integrated, adding a layer of intelligence to understand the relationships between data sets will help identify areas for change and improvement, while providing the reasoning to underpin decisions. With today’s BI solutions airports can increase efficiencies supporting better passenger flows and faster aircraft turnaround.
Baggage handling is set to get even better. Despite rising passenger numbers, the number of mishandled bags has dropped 50%. And there is good news for everyone. Using radio frequency identification (RFID) technology for bag tracking has the potential to cut mishandling rates by a further 25%. SITA and IATA have calculated this will result in a saving of up to US$3 billion for the industry.
A big development is the integration of biometrics with standard common-use self-service equipment already in use in airports. Not only does it respond to the call for increased security, it can satisfy the demand for a fast and seamless passenger experience that is cost-effective and easy to deploy.
SITA experts will be on the stand to showcase and discuss how these technology solutions, are already helping to transform airports around the world.
