The inaugural ‘PAX TECH HACK’ will see more than 50 developers compete to create winning digital solutions

The organisers of Passenger Technology Solutions, returning to the Hamburg Messe 2-4 April 2019 during Passenger Experience Week, have today announced the challenges for the inaugural PAX TECH HACK hackathon, which will see 50 international developers, designers and marketers create revolutionary new solutions to improve the end-to-end passenger journey.

The PAX TECH HACK, backed by supporting organisation IATA, will challenge participants to address some of the biggest issues in today’s aviation industry. Entrants will divide themselves into teams on the first day of the event and will have just 48 hours to create solutions which they will present at the PTS Seminar Theatre on Thursday 4 April at 1.00pm (CET).

With new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain and virtual reality (VR) transforming the way people travel, it’s never been more important for airports and airlines to find software that meets today’s industry challenges. The PAX TECH HACK aims to help find solutions – with a strong practical application – to real-life problems facing the aviation sector.

The PAX TECH HACK Challenges

The first of the challenges will be the ‘Inflight Passenger Community Challenge’, which will require PAX TECH HACK participants to create a digital solution to solve the lack of communication between passengers and create a community onboard.

The ‘Boost Airport Retail Challenge’ will ask participants to develop a digital solution to help retailers entice airline passengers who usually head straight to the gate to be first to board the plane. The aim will be to turn early arrivals at the gate into airport retail consumers who have time to browse duty-free, and in turn boost revenue.

The judging panel including industry experts from International Air Transport Association (IATA), SITAONAIR and Branding.aero will decide which of the teams should be declared the champion and receive the €5,000 prize. Mentors from companies including FrontM and FETHR will also be on hand to provide participants with insights. Visitors are invited to see the PAX TECH HACK winners crowned on the PTS Seminar Theatre at 3pm on Thursday 4 April.

Passenger Technology Solutions as part of Passenger Experience Week

A key part of Passenger Experience Week 2019, PTS follows the Passenger Experience Conference (PEC) on 1 April 2019. Visitors, including participating developers, will be able to access PTS as well as co-located shows Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) and World Travel Catering & Onboard Services Expo (WTCE), offering unrivalled access to some of the most influential companies and individuals within the industry including British Airways, Emirates and American Airlines.

Ismail Shuaau, who works at Cyprea Private Limited as a developer, said: “I’m excited to take part in the PAX TECH HACK as an opportunity to network and meet likeminded and energetic developers, designers, engineers and marketers. This hackathon is the perfect place to use my skills as a developer alongside my knowledge of the passenger technology industry.”

Archana Sharma, Event Director for Passenger Technology Solutions added: “We’re delighted to reveal the challenges our participants will face at the first ever PAX TECH HACK. Seamless, connected journeys are key to staying competitive in this industry, so this is a fantastic opportunity for visiting airlines to spot new talent, while developers will benefit from the expertise and experience of industry experts at the show. We can’t wait to see what innovative solutions are created by the developers, and who will be crowned the winning team!”

This year, PTS can be found in the Hall B4 Upper of the Hamburg Messe, positioning the show closer to the popular Inflight Entertainment and Connectivity (IFEC) Zone at AIX.
