With the goal of developing narrow-body aircraft to meet the practical needs of the Vietnam market, Embraer (Brazil) – aircraft manufacturer, will attend the Vietnam International Aviation Expo 2022 on September 15-17th, 2022 at the National Convention Center, Hanoi, as the Business Class sponsor.

Development potential of Embraer narrow-body aircraft in Vietnam

Vietnam is a very dynamic market with great growth prospects. Increasing connectivity will help the country grow its economy and create more jobs. As the Vietnam market heavily depends on large-capacity aircraft, the imbalance between aircraft capacity and market demand has limited the ability of airlines to effectively serve the regional aviation market. The downside of over-dependence on large narrow-body aircraft will soon become apparent when this type of aircraft proves to be less effective in enhancing connectivity at local airports. Moreover, some restricted airports in Vietnam cannot receive large narrow-body aircraft.

Exclusive destinations like Con Dao, Ca Mau, Dien Bien Phu and Rach Gia are currently served by turboprops. Small jets can be operated at a reasonable price, and at the same time, generate profits. Instead of costly infrastructure projects, small jets are the most viable alternative to improve air service without restrictions and with a higher payload than aircraft using turboprops. In addition, this type of aircraft also offers unique advantages in terms of operation, such as optimal capacity, cost savings, operating range, improved service quality and flexible route development.

Raul Villaron, Vice President Asia Pacific for Embraer Commercial Aviation, shared that E-Jets E2, the new generation of E-Jets, is the perfect choice to operate in Vietnam. Currently, Embraer’s first generation E-Jets are being operated in Vietnam to domestic destinations such as Rach Gia, Con Dao and Dien Bien from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. E-Jets are also useful aircraft to operate when establishing new routes in the region.

Embraer’s E-Jets family of aircraft

Entered into service in 2018, the E190-E2 is a single-aisle jet with a capacity of up to 114 seats, with Embraer’s signature 2×2 seat allocation design. Equipped with the latest technologies, as well as inheriting mature and reliable performance from the first generation E-Jets, the E190-E2 not only helps to optimize operating costs but also provides outstanding performance, making it easier to land in airports with restrictions due to higher altitudes or shorter runways. The E190-E2 is also designed to ensure a large luggage capacity, minimize noise and minimize the impact on the environment, creating comfort for passengers. In addition, the E190-E2 is also equipped with two powerful Pratt & Whitney PW1900G GTF™ engines.

The E2 family jet, including the E190-E2 and E195-E2, is currently operated by many international airlines including KLM (Netherlands), Helvetic Airlines (Switzerland), Azul (Brazil), Air Peace ( Nigeria) and soon Porter Airlines (Canada).

In Vietnam, a number of aircraft lines manufactured by Embraer have also been put into operation. Up to now, Bamboo Airways owns a fleet of 5 E190s and Vietstar Airlines has also used Embraer aircraft for its charter service. Embraer E195-E2 also had a demo flight tour in Vietnam in 2019.

From September 2020, Bamboo Airways operated the Hanoi – Con Dao route by deploying Embraer E195 and E190 commercial aircraft. The operating range, capacity and performance of E195 and E190 have helped Bamboo Airways become the first airline to directly operate the Hanoi – Con Dao route, then operate routes from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Dien Bien.
