StandardAero Receives FAA STC Approval for PT6A-140 Engine Upgrades for Cessna Caravan 208B Aircraft

Company StandardAero
Date 27.07.2016

StandardAero, with support from its in-house Organization Designation Authorization (ODA) delegation, has obtained a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) approval for Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) PT6A-140 engine upgrades on Cessna Caravan 208B aircraft.

The upgrade program includes the removal of P&WC’s PT6A-114/114A engine and replacement/installation of a P&WC PT6A-140 model engine.

Installation of this new STC provides numerous benefits to Cessna Caravan 208B aircraft operators. The P&WC PT6A-140 model engine provides a 28-45% increase in shaft horsepower by replacing the existing P&WC PT6A-114/114A engine. Other benefits to aircraft performance include reduced takeoff distance (under 1,200 foot ground roll) and up to a 40% improvement in the rate of aircraft climb (1,200+ feet/per minute). These benefits will give operators enhanced safety margins for environmental factors, including flight in known icing conditions.

“These aircraft operators now have a choice for upgrading their engines and may also install the upgrade at their maintenance location of choice,” said Rob Higby, Vice President of Global Sales & Marketing for StandardAero Airlines & Fleets. “Ultimately, this upgrade gives Cessna Caravan operators the performance benefits of a Grand Caravan EX without having to buy a new aircraft.”

This new STC/upgrade program is available immediately.

As a Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A Designated Distributor and Overhaul Facility, StandardAero is now the only MRO provider that can offer both repair and engine upgrade solutions for P&WC PT6A-114/114A powered Cessna Caravan 208B operators. In addition, StandardAero can provide enhanced warranty offerings that exceed basic OEM warranty benefits on new engines.

With more than 25 years of reliable turboprop experience, StandardAero provides options and recommendations that are tailored to specific operator needs. StandardAero’s facilities and infrastructure have also been specifically designed for P&WC PT6A engine component repair and maintenance events with the goal of minimizing downtime and reducing operator costs.
