High expectations for global aviation at Singapore Airshow 2018

The upcoming Singapore Airshow, Asia’s largest aerospace and defense show, which will take place February 6-11, 2018, promises an exciting look into what’s next for the global aviation industry. There are big things at stake for the global aerospace companies facing challenging times in the aviation industry. At the Airshow these companies will showcase a wide range of their latest products, services and innovations.

Singapore will host returning exhibitors including 65 of the top global aerospace companies such as Airbus, Bell Helicopter, Boeing, Bombardier, Embraer, Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), Pratt & Whitney, Rolls-Royce, ST Engineering, Thales and UTC Aerospace Systems. The Airshow will also present new and notable exhibitors such as Aviation Learn, Boom Supersonic, Honda Aircraft Company, LOGIC, Marposs, IHSE Asia, WEARE Group, Wright Brothers Science and Technologies Development.

A look into what’s next

The upcoming Singapore Airshow is set to be a global marketplace and networking event for the global aviation community. It is also a platform for conferences dedicated to leading players in the global aviation industry with the Singapore Airshow Aviation Summit (SAALS) as well as co-located events – the ALLSTAR Aerospace Technology Leadership Forum and the Singapore Aerospace Technology and Engineering Conference (SATEC). The biennial event is organized and managed by Experia Events.

The main event – the Singapore Airshow Aviation Leadership Summit (SAALS) to be held on February 4-5 at the Pan Pacific Singapore, will be focused on “Reimagining Aviation’s Future”. The Summit will seek to address both the challenges and opportunities arising from the continued demand for air travel that is powering robust growth. It will also provide a platform for civil aviation authorities, governments and airlines to discuss a sustainable approach to future growth in air travel demand.

The launch of What’s Next @ Singapore Airshow is another promising event to take place within the show. With the recognized need to assist the global aviation industry leverage on emerging innovations and technologies to drive future growth, the Airshow is set to involve one of the most dynamic segments in the aviation and aerospace industry – start-ups. Their showcase is a new initiative that is meant to support aspiring new companies. The start-ups will be able to exhibit their latest innovations, network with and pitch their business ideas and offerings to investors, accelerators and corporate partners at the show.

Airbus and Boeing to put their best foot forward

Airbus will be the largest international exhibitor at the Singapore Airshow. In a statement, the company said it will showcase a selection of its latest products, services and innovations in the commercial aircraft, defense, space and helicopter markets. The highlight at the static display will be the new long-range A350-1000 wide-body aircraft. Also on display will be the new-generation military airlifter A400M. Completing the line-up will be two of the company’s most popular single and twin engine rotorcraft helicopters – the H130 and H135.

The Airbus exhibition will include a display of scale models of the A350-1000, A400M, AstroBus-XS satellite and H145 helicopter. The exhibit will also feature a full size mock-up of a section of the new A330neo Airspace cabin.  There will be an area dedicated to the company’s growing Services business. This will include information about the Skywise data platform and the Hangar of the Future project to digitalize the MRO business.

Airbus will also showcase its latest innovations. On display will be a prototype of the Skyways autonomous parcel delivery drone, which is at an advanced stage of development in collaboration with partners in Singapore. A virtual reality tour experiencing the world of Airbus today and a glimpse of what the future may hold will also be available.

Boeing is also prepared to showcase a wide range of its products and services. The company maintains that the scale of its presence at the upcoming Airshow will reflect the strong growth prospects and opportunities across its commercial, defense and services businesses in the Asia-Pacific. The region is Boeing Commercial Airplanes’ fastest growing market with a strong demand for both single and twin-aisle airplanes. In addition to models of the 737 MAX and 787 airplanes that have been delivered to numerous customers in the region, the Boeing exhibition will showcase a model of the new 777X now in development and build.

Boeing Defense, Space & Security will have a robust line-up of Boeing and customer products on static display. The republic of Singapore Air Force will display the F-15SG multi-role fighter, and the CH-47 Chinook and AH-64 Apache helicopters. The US Department of Defense will showcase the P-8A Poseidon and the F/A-18 Super Hornet, alongside the Integrator unmanned aircraft system from Insitu. In addition, the exhibit will include the Insitu Scan Eagle, and the Wave Glider, an ocean surface robot with seabed-to-space autonomous capabilities from Liquid Robotics.

Boeing states that for the first time ate the Singapore Airshow, there will be a Boeing Global Services (BGS) exhibit highlighting products that drive lifecycle innovation and efficiency. Launched in 2017, it is the company’s newest business unit and is set for growth through innovative services and support for regional commercial and defense systems throughout the entire lifecycle. The Asia-Pacific region is an important growth market for the services businesses with an emphasis on engineering, modifications, upgrades, maintenance, Boeing AnalytX, digital services and training. The Boeing Training and Professional Services campus in Changi, Singapore is Boeing’s largest pilot, technician and crew training facility in Asia.
