Over 300 internationally recognised experts gathered at the high-level paid-for World Counter Terror Congress to debate the threats we face, define operational strategies and help shape the future policy.
The Congress was an excellent opportunity to government, the emergency services, academics, technology providers and vendors to unveil new developments in counter terror.
Recently we have seen devastating attacks on transport hubs such as Atatürk international airport in Turkey and attacks on Brussels airport and metro station.
The mass movement of people throughout the world also poses serious problems for security professionals – with borders being exploited by those seeking to do us harm.
In fact, Hungary claim that seven of the attackers from the 2015 Paris attacks slipped through Hungarian borders while posing as migrants. Salah Abdeslam (one of the attackers) is believed to have made four trips to Hungary in August and October 2015 in which he picked up other terrorists linked to both the Brussels and Paris attacks. There are also fears that as ISIS loses territory in Syria, their followers will flee through open borders into Europe.
At Border & Transport Security attendees heard from experts on the most critical issues facing borders and transport hubs. Attendees met fellow practitioners to share best practice and explore the latest capabilities for secure border and transport management.
Bringing together the emergency preparedness, resilience & response community
Supported and chaired by the Cabinet Office, Ambition was one of the most attended conference in 2017.
Attendees heard from experts on topics such as the future of emergency services, pandemic diseases, response to terrorist attacks and resilience for businesses.
Ambition is directly aligned with the National Resilience Capabilities Programme and the National Respond and Rescue Strategy written by the Civil Contingencies Secretariat and supported by the Cabinet Office.
