Aircraft Maintenance: Careers Driving Air France’s Pursuit of Excellence

Guaranteeing flight safety every day
At Air France Industries, 7,600 experts accomplish an essential daily mission: keeping the more than 200 aircraft in the Air France fleet – as well as those entrusted to the teams by customer airlines – in top-notch condition.
These passionate, specialized teams carry out preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance activities to ensure the fleet’s airworthiness.
A wide range of unique skills
Behind this strategic activity lies an incredible diversity of professions: mechanics and technicians working on equipment, engines, aircraft, avionics or structures; engineers and analysts involved in predictive maintenance; logistics experts; work-study apprentices and their tutors… These specialists work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on the ground, on the runway, in workshops, or in specialized hangars. Each of them plays a key role and brings unique expertise, allowing the company to operate more than 1,000 daily flights in total safety.
Ambitious projects for the future
The teams at Air France Industries are constantly innovating. In 2025, in addition to their usual tasks, they will begin implementing major new projects, such as:
- The rollout of Air France’s new La Première suite, with the complete refurbishment of Boeing 777-300s in all cabins.
- The installation of satellite antennas on all fleet aircraft, enabling free high-speed Internet access for all passengers using Starlink technology.
These major projects are part of Air France’s drive to move upmarket and confirm the central role of the maintenance professions in the company’s transformation.
The Air France Industries teams will also continue to support the gradual modernization of the fleet, with the integration of the latest generation of less polluting and quieter aircraft. By 2025, Air France will welcome some twenty new Airbus A350s and A220s. Compared with the previous generation, these aircraft consume 25% less fuel, and their CO2 emissions are reduced by the same amount. Their noise footprint is also reduced by 33% on average.
To support this fleet renewal, which represents an investment of over €1 billion, Air France Industries will bolster its workforce by recruiting for 450 positions this year.
A company committed to employment and diversity
Aircraft maintenance is a strategic activity for the Air France-KLM Group and a real socio-economic driver. As the largest private employer in the Île-de-France region, the Group recruits and trains professionals in high value-added professions, offering long-term career prospects.
In particular, Air France offers a robust apprenticeship program to help young people find employment, supported by partnerships with schools and associations. In 2025, nearly 300 new apprentices will join the ranks and receive on-the-job training.
Diversity and inclusion are also at the heart of Air France’s commitments. Through its partnership with the “Féminisons les métiers de l’aéronautique et du spatial” initiative and its 7th agreement on gender equality in the workplace, the company is taking concrete action to feminize jobs considered masculine. The proportion of women in aircraft maintenance at Air France has doubled over the past ten years, demonstrating the company’s determination to support this change.
