Air Senegal to start operations by April 2018, exec says

Air Senegal, the national carrier of Senegal, will begin operations before April 2018, Philip Bohn, the Chief Executive of the airline said on February 11, 2018. The exec also admitted that the carrier is still awaiting the Air Operator’s Certificate.

As actusen.com reports, Bohn explained that it takes an airline approximately eight to 12 months to be granted the Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC). Despite that, the CEO hopes that Air Senegal will be able to start flying very soon: “in the next few weeks, if the [AOC] is awarded we will start commercial flights.”

On February 8, 2018 Airbus confirmed that Air Senegal signed a firm order for two A330neo aircraft. The order followed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in November 2017 at the Dubai Airshow.

“These A330neo aircraft will contribute to developing our medium and long-haul network. It is important for us to begin our commercial activities with aircraft that are both reliable and economical, while offering our passengers unrivalled comfort. This order demonstrates our ambitions for this new airline,” said Bohn at the time, according to a statement by Airbus.

Air Senegal was founded by the government of Senegal, following the collapse of Senegal Airlines in March 2016.
